FOR SALE: Dean 365 off-grid tiny house catamaran
Переглядів 2,1 тис.8 місяців тому
Because we are planning to go back to the Netherlands, we are selling our Dean 365 cat. The last 5 years we lived, sailed, ate, worked and slept full-time on our boat in the Med, and refitted and upgraded it. It's a great liveaboard boat. And off-grid. The only thing we miss, is a vegetable garden on the foredeck :-) But there are big solar panels with their electrics, 560Ah LiFePO4 house batte...
4 days from Tunisia to Mallorca. Ep.70, Sailing Exodos

We sailed from Tabarka, in the northwest of Tunisia, to Mallorca. The crossing took us 3 days and nights, we caught our first tuna ever, had a good average speed, and we don't like night shifts :-)
Sailing in Tunisia. Ep.69, Sailing Exodos
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
Exodos is sailing from Monastir, at the eastcoast of Tunisia, to Tabarka, at the northwestern coast. 3 nights, no yachts at all, and a large group of dolphins that stayed with us for 1.5 hrs. Some nice sailing, and some emotions of being back at sea :-)
Exploring Tunisian Sahara. Ep. 68, Sailing Exodos
Переглядів 622Рік тому
We made a one week long trip through Tunisia with a rental, most of which through the Sahara desert. We have seen a huge colosseum, slept in a cave hostel, went to oases, made a visit to the Tatooine Star Wars filmset in the desert, rode on camels and did some other stuff . We had a great time! We hope you enjoy watching it.

DIY gelcoat! Ep.66, Sailing Exodos
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
We decided to put new gelcoat on the hulls, because the yellowness was really ugly after the white reparations. Never done it, but you got to start somewhere, right? :-) And then we did the antifouling, after which our little boat looked so much better! Anja's website with blogs: www.anjakeesmaat.com/blog

DIY nut, blisters & despondency. Ep.64 Sailing Exodos

We had blisters under the waterline, needed to repair the nut that holds the steering wheel in place, and we needed to shake our heads a few times because of some external stupidity, but we had a good time, working together. I realized I didn't edit our footage of the boat yard in the right order, so i needed to mess up the timeline a little :-) You can read Anja's blogs at www.anjakeesmaat.com...
New stainless steel arch disaster. Ep.63

Yes, it was a disaster to get a new st st arch on Exodos! Really nothing was right, no 90 degrees angles, nothing parallel, they tried to make it level while the boat wasn't level, and even corrected the wrong pieces of pipe in the wrong direction. It's a miracle the new arch didn't explode :-) The video only gives a representation of the least disastrous moments. Good thing: I didn't kill anyb...

In a huge storm the starboard hull slammed on the key, because of which we lost the bulb that protected it. So, now we built a new one from pvc pipe, a toilet floater, fiberglass and epoxy. Great video. Thanks for posting. When taking the end cap off the motor (at 15:00) spray it with some wd40 all around the cap. Will help release it. Also, the bolt used for the lug should be brass. Stainless is a terrible conductor of electricity and not to be used in that application. The lug bolt you installed needed to be connected on the inside of the motor to the brush sets. I did n't see that done but assume you got it soldered in?

    Ik heb precies dezelfde watermaker, ik loop tijdens de installatie alleen tegen 1 probleem aan.. Hoeveel bar moet de waterpomp zijn? Alvast superbedankt!

    • @DoubleUThings
      @DoubleUThings 21 день тому

      Hoi, Laurent! We hebben de boot in april verkocht, dus ik moet even hard nadenken 🙂. Spectra zelf geeft voor de Ventura 200 een druk van 90 psi op, wat ongeveer 6,2 bar is. En later heb ik er nog een pomp bijgebouwd, voor een hogere opbrengst. Dat kon, want het enige verschil tussen de 200 en het hogere model, is een dubbele feed pump (dat heb ik afgestemd met de technische afdeling van de fabriek). Ik gebruikte normaal gesproken alle twee de pompen, maar als het in de zomer erg warm was, liet ik hem na een tijdje op één pomp lopen, zodat de andere kon afkoelen. Als je er trouwens eentje met van die koelvinnen die je erop kunt klikken kunt vinden, is dat aan te raden voor wanneer het erg warm is. Ik hoop dat ik je vraag hiermee heb beantwoord. Groetz! Wim

We have used it for 4 years, fulltime living on our boat, and it never had let us down. Next project (we sold the boat) will have only Victron again. Except the LiFePO4 batteries, because there are cheaper brands with exactly the same Chinese cells in it.

    Fill hex bolts with pure lanolin after assembly. This prevents growth inside the hex head. Will not dissolve in water. But will easily squish out with hex wrench for removal, even years later.

    Hi, great job that I also did. It is important to point out that it is not necessary to grease but just to oil the O-rings and the ring because they are permanently in SAE 80W90. Can you be so kind as to give me the complete part number of your Volvo Penta propeller, thank you!

    • @DoubleUThings
      @DoubleUThings 4 місяці тому

      Thanx! 🙂Yeah, the oil is okay too. It's less messy when you do it with a little grease, though. By the way, the Yanmar factory advizes to use 15W30 or 15W40 instead of 80W90 when the saildrive is connected to the 1GM10 engine. Strange, huh? And I'm sorry, but I don't know that part number... And I can't check it, because we sold the boat by now.

    Nice one. Another thing is that after you select the cog on the mppt controller then click on the 3dots on the top again and change the name of your controller to something making sense. I use my boat name them voltage/ amperage which helps when you have different voltage or amp controllers. Don’t rely on that Daly to give you correct SOC they are horrible at counting small amp charges and discharges. Use a nice Victron smart shunt to give you real readings.

    • @DoubleUThings

    Sdid you ever get that water maker working? I have the smae issues with my spectra

    • @DoubleUThings
      @DoubleUThings 5 місяців тому

      I never did a video on that, right? 🤔 But yes. We bought a new membrane (expensive stuff!) and also added a second feed pump, and have used it for the last two years. It gives a little less fresh water than spec, because of little grooves in the cilinders, but still 38l/hr, which is more than enough for everything (showering, dishes, cooking, drinking, washing machine). It is one of the best additions to our boat! Love it! After our LiFePO4 batteries are full (which is often before noon), we run the watermaker purely on the solar panels. But what are your issues?

    • @Robdawg_86
      @Robdawg_86 5 місяців тому

      @@DoubleUThings well I have the spectra vt150, I took it apart for maintenance and cleaning after storing it for 2 years. When I reassembled it I wasn't making any water. My feed pressure gauge had always been faulty so i then replaced the feed gauge to see I was only making 20psi feed pressure. I then took everything apart again but all the seals were in place and everything looked in good condition. So second time testing, I blocked the brine discharge which built up enough pressure to enough to move the piston in the top block, which then allowed me to purge the rest of the air out and develop good feed pressure. So now I am able to make 22l per hour. Finicky machines these things but undoubtedly a good product

      Hey, dear piepels! Lots of blessings from above in 2024 for you guys. Don't now if we will keep making videos. Maybe start doing other type of videos in Dutch again after we sold the boat. With more "deeper-thoughts-of-Wim-about-all-kinds-of-subjects" videos. And plans? We are thinking about going back to the Netherlands and go live on a motoryacht over there. But plans could easily change. Especially with all things that are happening and boiling in the Middle East - maybe the world is going to burn. And we don't know how much time we have left, right? Hoping to make good use of the time we have left.

It's so inspiring to see you tackle these challenges and make the most out of every moment. And kudos to you for the delicious meals you cooked on board - it really added a special touch to your journey. Wishing you an incredible new year filled with even more exciting expeditions like this one. Cheers to you both, and keep up the fantastic work! Happy new year from all the way from Bahamas! 🌟⛵️😊

    Wow, what an amazing journey you've had on the Dean 365 off-grid tiny house catamaran! It's bittersweet to see it up for sale, but I'm sure there's a new chapter waiting for you. Your brilliant videos have been such a joy to watch, and you've been my favorite sailing channel. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll find the perfect new owner who will appreciate this incredible vessel just as much as you have. Sending you all the best in this transition, and I can't wait to see what's next for you! P.S. Exodos looked absolutely stunning, Andrew (Dean 400 Bahamas)! Such a clean and well-maintained boat. Keep up the great work and happy sailing!

    warmest regards from Italy Florence a question about the snorkel I see many snorkels on many off-road vehicles that have the mushroom pipe turned towards the rear of the 4x4 off-road vehicle and does anyone have the mushroom pipe turned towards the front of the 4x4 off-road vehicle? (and some off-road vehicles Does the 4x4 have a cyclone mushroom like an agricultural or earthmoving machine?) Christmas 2023 from Italy Florence!)

      Sunny regards back! 🙂 Haha, the old discussion about what's best. I don't think it makes a difference. There are people who say that if you turn it forward, the driving wind rams some extra air into the engine, a kind of week turbo, zo to say, but 4x4's drive way to slow to make in difference regarding that. The most important thing is that you don't get water into the snorkle, so in that perspective backwards is robably the best.

    @DoubleUThings *_ Ag nee man! My favourite Dutchman (besides Geert!) is going to drop all the fun vids that we've all enjoyed for years on end. I read further down that you're thinking of a Motor Yacht. Well if that's the case then we haven't lost you at all! Groete uit Kaap Stad _*

      Haha! Ja, het zeilen is voorbij! I still have footage for one more video, but that's it. We are planning to return to the Netherlands for now, but of course we first have to sell the Dean. Besides Geert? 🙂 Well, let's see if he can lead the country. But hey, it's easy to do it better than the lying and country-ruining government we had. And yes, we want to buy a motoryacht to live on.

      @@linejunction Thanx again, Farrel. Yeah, planning to do some explanation in the "last" video. We don't exactly know what we are going to do yet. We want to buy an older motoryacht to go live on in in the Netherlands, but maybe it's going to be something totally different. Same age? I am 58 years old. Physically. Mentally... don't know for sure 🙂 And about videos... I don't know either. Because I still have a fulltime job, I just can't put so much time in videos as I should.
